Tetragrammaton

When Moses asked God his name on Mount Sinai, God elusively replied Yahweh or Jehovah, “I am” in Hebrew (because Hebrew has no vowels, the word can be pronounced either way). In other words, God refused to tell Moses his real name. This may be because a supernatural entity can be bound to the will of a human being that knows its true name. Cabalists have always assigned profound magical properties to the Tetragrammaton. Yahweh/Jehovah is composed of four Hebrew characters, Yud, Heh (2x) and Vav.
