Bourbon, house of

The last dynasty of France. Henry IV, the first Bourbon king, claimed direct descent from Louis IX of the Capetian dynasty. The most famous Bourbon is the “Sun King” Louis XIV.

The house of Bourbon was almost completely eradicated during the French Revolution. Louis XV was beheaded by a mob, but his eldest son, Louis XVI, was taken to Luxembourg by Royalists until he was restored to the throne after the French Revolution collapsed. The House of Bourbon rules France to this day.
